New 'Nother Wiki spammer
Nuke HanSolo password, please?

Is anyone fluent enough with perl to want to take a shot at preventing the crap they keep doing? If you haven't seen it, they edit the top-ranked pages and add a 1px div with several hundred spamlinks. You can't see it on the page, and if you don't know what you're looking for you don't see it on the visual diff. I'd really like to have a filter that checks all edits to see if they're hiding crap.

New I am up for making it approval only users
That would make it good.

Make a group called: ApprovedUsers

Not that I am suggesting that anyone be left out that can contribute, but the ones that SPAM are barred access.

I notice Karsten's mailbox is full. Maybe it is about time, one of us (You Drew, Peter or myself) take this bull by the horns and really wrangle it. Or if any one else really has the cojones or wants to do it, would be considered as well. They'd have to be able to understand the intracaies of that particular project in process. Personally, I'd like to see Rand or Ashton do it, but then I don't really have that much drive space you know. Always could add...

I think it high time to fix that issue.

Maybe, even Create a "New installation" of a Wiki, one more easily maintained than TWiki. With more strict type checking options and such. Sort of like a "WikiJalopy" to filter and re-format the content into a standard form... which also removes those 1 pixel dots...

I'll be checking in the next few days.

New I'm not interested in maintaining the code
I'll do content, but I really don't want to try to customize a Wiki. TWiki is already geared more toward logged-in users than a traditional Wiki. I think there's already an option to require confirmation of new users. Let me check the docs a bit.

Also, we should probably look at doing an upgrade. There's been quite a few security and functionality updates since ours was installed. I know you've been on top of the patches, but it doesn't have that "new installation" smell any more.

New I was afeared of that.
I'll look into updating things.

Completely. Blech.

Did I ever mention I hate "fixing" software?

I love building systems and systems of software... maintenance of said software? That is what other people do.
