xterm-alikes.
I've been using Ubuntu for a while, now, and since I spend a lot of time at the CLI or in vi, I need a term program. I've been using Ubuntu's default, gnome-terminal. In a previous position, I used Eterm for a long time and got used to the way it did things. For one thing, it has nicer fonts than gnome-terminal, but I sorta got used to the latter's tabs. Both have translucent backgrounds and other configurations, too, though Eterm's is very wierd to use.
(Interestingly, I sought out Eterm this morning because I was sick of how gnome-terminal does the clipboard - and then I found out that middle-click does actually work in it, after all. :-/)
So what do people use for terminal sessions in X? And why?
Wade.

konsole
KDE's xterm thingy. Even when using Gnome, I still use konsole.
Multi-tabs, named sessions, font control, etc.

Aye, konsole.
I set up a session to run 'tn5250 +underscores as400.address.net' as well - very handy.

gnome-terminal
Tabs. Colors. Purty fonts. It does what I need it to do and gets the fuck out of the way. It's for running CLIs. What more do I need it to do?

Not on an LCD
My biggest beef with gnome-terminal, and the reason I used eTerm, is that I couldn't figure out how to make it use console fonts. On an LCD, I find non-anti-aliased text much sharper and easier to read.

I use it on an LCD daily.
I don't have a CRT anymore. Laptop is all I use. All looks bootiful enough for me.

$me == picky_bastage
Put up an xterm window next to a gnome-terminal window and look at the difference. The anti-aliased fonts may look good, but the terminal fonts are sharper. And when I was reviewing thousands of lines of code per day, it made a difference.

But look at the blurry lower-case 's'
Try that same screenshot but with the same file open in an xterm next to gnome-terminal.

Wait, "bitmap" means anti-aliased,right?
I was thinking backwards. I want the old-fashined non-anti-aliased terminal fonts. Like you get in a good old xterm.

Yes, I saw that in the Ubuntu repository.
Bit of turn-about when a graphical ssh client for Windows migrates to X... :-)

gnome-terminal
Habit, really, and it's installed there by default. I used to use it for the purty transparent backgrounds, but now I just set the background to dark blue and leave it at that.

gnome-terminal mostly, aterm a close second
I like being able to use ProFont, one of the finest code fonts ever, in my terminal, but xterm, aterm, etc. don't play nice with it since I only have it as TTF. \r\n\r\n Forsaking that, I'd go with aterm; it's got the configurability and flashy translucency effects, but it's orders of magnitude faster and lighter than Eterm.
