New Does anyone else feel like the sky is falling?
I can't even read the fucking newspaper anymore. It is too damn depressing. I feel like we are being buried alive: left to suffocate with all our senses intact. If the world isn't coming to an end, this is mighty damn close to it. I don't even know if I can remember what Hope feels like anymore. I feel sorry for my kids. We have left them a virtual shit-hole: deficits beyond all rational thinking, bankrupt ethics in what is supposed to be Our Government. Hell, even the friggin' State of Texas can't fund their education system! WTF is that all about?

It just seems like no one cares about anything anymore. And those that do, well, they are shouting in the wind. Doesn't anybody have any common decency anymore?

Wordsworth was never more appropriate:

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.

Peace. Yeah, Right.
Amy

I will rend thee in gabberwarts with my burglecruncheon, See if I don't!
New Perhaps the children will pity us.
Perhaps they'll hold us in contempt.
I know they'll do a better job
than any we attempt.

Imric's Tips for Living
  • Paranoia Is a Survival Trait
  • Pessimists are never disappointed - but sometimes, if they are very lucky, they can be pleasantly surprised...
  • Even though everyone is out to get you, it doesn't matter unless you let them win.

Nothing is as simple as it seems in the beginning,
As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New does the news dictate what time yer bladder is full?

"the reason people don't buy conspiracy theories is that they think conspiracy means everyone is on the same program. Thats not how it works. Everybody has a different program. They just all want the same guy dead. Socrates was a gadfly, but I bet he took time out to screw somebodies wife" Gus Vitelli

New Good point
just wonder when all the shit is going to stop flinging in my direction --or--
better yet, when will I have the ShitProof(tm) overcoat.

Letting go! Ah, there's the rub. Faith is shaken badly these days. Maybe that explains the Excrement Fest. Wish to rewind to July and stay there. Could've used another couple of nights of hedonistic partying to clear out the cobwebs.

But then, I wouldn't be the fine, upstanding citizen that I am. Hah!

Got Peace?
A.

Oh Freddled Gruntbuggly!
New Yes and no.
The world is much smaller than it was 20 years ago. It's easier for pictures to be broadcast than it was 20 years ago. Disasters have always grabbed eyeballs - they still do.

Lots of bad things have happened in the last 5 years or so. Lots of good things too, but you'd be hard pressed to find them in places like the Wikipedia listing for [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000|2000], [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001|2001], [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002|2002], [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003|2003]. [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004|2004], and [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005|2005].

:-(

So how about some good news? Ok, [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/09/AR2005100901332.html|GOP having trouble recruiting candidates]. We're not at war with China (remember the [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&contentId=A71511-2001May24¬Found=true|spy plane incident]?). Turkey is not at war with Iraqi Kurdistan. The [link|http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4332946.stm|presidential elections in Liberia] happened without violence.

[link|http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1568667.html?menu=|Marilyn Manson has a brand of perfume coming out].

And it looks like [link|http://www.theonion.com/content/node/41444|President Bush will make a major appointment on Friday].

[link|http://bushclock.lose.com/|1196 days to go].

Don't worry. :-)

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who remembers "Duck and Cover"...)
New (I don't think we *Have*___'1198' days left - - Y'know?)
Deer-in-Headlights-Churl at the top, vicious storm troopers just below, now In Extremis as it falls apart -
and Iraq in recursive accelerating self-destruct - with no HOLD-button on any console..
(For just 3 out of the first 100 intractable conditions).

Nothing remotely 'normal' about These 'times'.

Luck to us all. Flip coin:
(I like ~ Crisis = Danger + Opportunity even if.. that's a bit Pollyanna,
given the well-organized depravity of This cabal.)

New Marilyn Manson making perfume?
The signature scent of vomit, excrement and orchids?

You're right about the world being smaller. We have access to news 24/7. Once the story is initially reported it stops being news. But we have to suffer for days and weeks of debates by pundits and "experts" ensuring that the crap doesnt leak out of our consciousness. At that point, they're not reporting news anymore. They're just killing airtime. They have to broadcast something over those 24 hours of airtime and dirty laundry and mass casualties help the ratings. God forbid they should report on a random act of kindess or a story of hope.

Yesterday I stopped at a restaurant for bowl of soup. I forgot my wallet and was digging around in the bottom of my purse for change and the cashier told me to forget about it and *gave* me the soup. That small act of kindess surprised me and lifted my spirits for the entire day.
Jesus was a star last week.
Now he's tending bar on Melrose.
Welcome to Hollywood.
New That happened to me several years ago
The kids were little and we were pressed for time before an evening soccer game for #2 son. Went to the nearby Wendy's. Ordered for the family and when it came time to pay, I couldn't find a $5 bill that I had tucked into the diaper bag. Only had enough to pay for kids and hubby. So I sent my meal back. It was so embarrassing! There was a terrible line and I could feel 20 eyes burning a hole through the back of my head.

I took the food and sat down with the family and watched them eat. I got a fry or two for my trouble. I got up to take the baby (Emily) home so that I could fix myself a sandwich or something. Critter could go to the game with the boys.

Next thing I know, a cab driver rushed past me while the counter-girl said,"Ma'am? Here's your food." I was puzzled. She said that the man who just left had paid for it." I was in tears. Ironically, I could barely eat it. I was just too choked up.

I will never forget a stranger's kindness. Put my faith back in Humanity.

Peace,
Amy

Oh Freddled Gruntbuggly!
New It can be spread around -
and it's identically as 'good' for the giver's endorphins. [Bonus!]

Take a not-hypothetical example I heard:

Guy's having some of the best local Fish n'Chips at Betty's.
Notices a 60ish woman at a table.
Checks experience cache - looks like the Monthly-or-longer? splurge, here..
(Clothing, manner, expressions; fact that Betty's Is overpriced.)

Goes to counter - quietly pays for the person's meal + tip.
Enjoys own meal - more.
Leaves (quite before the other) er,

Eats shoots and leaves? anyone.

Yeah, JC got That one Right! about "what's more blessed" and all -
now if.. His putative followers could ever just learn to read the Real Stuff and skip the other 92% pure self-flaggelatin fear-shit, why - -

And.. NO!
Ya *Canna* do this stuff to build-up your Retirement Bonus and other such mercantile-minded BS, asshole.

New Who you callin' an a**hole?
I am a loyal follower of the "Pay-It-Forward" movement. I like to do nice things for people, but I don't tell anybody about it. Discretion is the better part of valor, cha cha cha.

I wish more people would catch the random acts of kindness bug. That is one pandemic that would change our world for the better.

Peace,
Amy
