Any Mandrake Fans here?
A network tech kid came up to me ranting and raving about how kewl Mandrake's latest was. He said something like, "and they've got this new software that allows you to run Windows Games with it." I just gave a cursory look at Mandrake's homepage but didn't see anything about "running Windows games" on their site (maybe I missed it?)
What is it? WINE? If anyone has a clue/experience with it, I'd love to hear about it. My daughters still need to run games (mostly educational, mind you) on their box. If whatever this "kewl thing from Mandrake" is exists and it works, I can at long last blast the last bit of Microsoft OS software running in my house.

Oi, BP. This is your turf.
There is a thing called [link|http://sourceforge.net/projects/winex|WineX] or something that purports to make running (specifically DirectX) Windows games a snap.
Never tried it. Anyone else done anything with this?

Never used WineX
But Wine supports DirectX, to a degree - and it's included with Mandrake, so that's prolly what he's talking about.

Uh yeah, but....
it just points to that damn Sourceforge page after I hit that "Agree" button. Which says it has no files.
The only other option is CVS, which I don't have installed. My Red Hat install is still hosed up, and I don't have CVS on Windows.

I think he was pointing out
[link|http://www.transgaming.com/news.php?newsid=3|This] article to be more specific. Evidently MandrakeSoft has released a Gaming Edition which DOES include Transgaming's WineX and some games.

Mandrake 8.1...
...comes with Wine. Wine supports (as Imric stated) directx to a degree.
Winex is NOT included...and, IIRC, in NOT free as in beer...but some here seem to have used it with varying measures of success.
I would love to help the tech kid out...but I'm not a big gamer...so I haven't tried any windows games umder mandrake's wine implementation.
