Why ID will lose: It postulates a designer. The entire thing collapses should the designer not be found. The designer's existence must be taken "on faith".
The founding fathers were pretty clear on the position of faith in the US.

It is quite possible that ID will infest the red states, but one suspects the red states are re-evaluating their politics as their machine begins to crumble.
