Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Yes, it does.
New What would be a more acceptable ratio for you?
The floor sweeper vs. Chairmain or CEO of IBM ?
(BTW, the British ratio would be 15,000 to 360,000. I find it laughtable.)
New 'Ratio' needs a better definition; a bit simplistic, that.
Something like ~

Max compensation a function of a relationship among many factors:

1) Percentage of people without shelter, medical care, normal basic amenities? (about the 'floor')

2) BOD Rulez (since they are dealing with the public's / investors' capital) - regarding actual competition for CIEIOs. Full disclosure of the cross-pollination whereby CIEIOs sit on each other's BODS and feed each other. Rulez about representation of any Corp on any stock exchange. Family-owned sinecures can do it any way they want. (about the 'ceiling')

3) Fill in the other obvious means by which there can be a floor as well as a ceiling on compensation paid to anyone: whose Murican org. wants to sell stock in the US. No problem yet with overseas orgs - they aren't insane. Yet.

Hey.. the Constitution gives us the power to regulate commerce - especially when it has exponentiated into an absolute travesty of any semblance of price/value/worth and a few other ideas. We *can* reexamine the idea of Corporate immunity from criminal or even tort behavior; we just lack the imagination and gonads to do it. Baa Baa etc.

(Natch this is utterly undoable - in an actual 'government by the 3-5%'. Call the idea an exercise in futility. For now and next.)

You meant _working_ people, right? The fact that some bums go without food shouldn't affect the salary of a CEO

>2) BOD Rulez (since they are dealing with the public's / investors' capital) - regarding actual competition for CIEIOs. BOD? What does that stand for? Also, I thought that salaries are paid out of revenue, not capital. A company that's running at a loss and pays a 7.5 million dollars to a CEO richly deserves to go out of business.

>Hey.. the Constitution gives us the power to regulate commerce

Yes. Commerse being:

1. The exchange or buying and selling of commodities; esp.
the exchange of merchandise, on a large scale, between
different places or communities; extended trade or
traffic.

Not worker's compensation. And, while the bottom is, indeed, regulated (not quite sure about the constitutional basis for that), the top is not, so far.

All that being said, what would _you_ determine to be the maximum fair salary of IBM's CEO? As concrete a question as it gets.
New Educated guess: BOD -- Board of Directors.
