New Nope. Go right ahead and...
e-mail away.

There are also the "traditional" modes that the video card supports too. These are harder to force but can be used just as well.

80 Characters Wide and 25 lines tall, is the default text based console for most. But you can get to 40 Characters wide and 12 lines tall on most current Video Cards... yes even the $700 nVidia cards.

Matrox seems to be the best supported for Linux in this regard, but now that S3 is back in the Video card realm, they have some nice offerings.

"Did I hear things, or can that little dog speak?" said Dibbler.
"He says he can't," said Victor. Dibbler hesitated.
"Well," he said, "I suppose he should know."

New Even better.
I believe there is a howto somewhere floating around on what to do.

I'll look for it... though I am busy right now.

New Not to worry
You do what you need to do and I'll poke around for the HOWTO, now that
I know something like it exists.

You've helped me quite a bit already, now and in the past.

"Students made it long ago," said Rincewind. "Handy way in and out after
lights out."
"Ah," said Twoflower, "I *understand*. Over the wall and out to
brightly-lit tavernas to drink and sing and recite poetry, yes?"
"Nearly right except for the singings and the poetry, yes," said Rincewind.

New There is this work here. Might need some tweaking.

But the straight VESA framebuffer driver should work too.
