Any Larn/Moria/Hack/Rogue fans about?
Currently having a whale of a time playing iLarn on my Handspring Visor.
For the uninitiated, think of it as Text Mode Diablo. Despite the hero being represented as an intrepid '@' sign, it's very engaging, lots of fun, and surprisingly difficult at times.
Larn or one of its variations has been ported to plenty of platforms. I've played it on the aforementioned Pyramid box, PalmOS, and Amiga. Bound to be lots of others.
I remember first playing Hack when on work experience in 1986, on a terminal connected to a 'Pyramid' machine, which has (in my memory at least) faded into the mists of time.
Anyway, tops fun, have a bash at it if you haven't already.

Rogue/Moria/Angband/(brief stop by Nethack)/ADOM...
That's my history. Never won any of them, but that's what I've played...

Never won any myself, either.
Then again, it took me about four years (on and off) to finish Diablo, so I know I won't win Larn this afternoon :-)

Yupers I remember it
I remember that Epyx made a Rouge clone for the Amiga. I used to play it. I also remember some BBSes used to have one of those versions as an online door.

Re: Any Larn/Moria/Hack/Rogue fans about?
I first encountered Moria 10 years ago, running the DOS version under the Acorn PC Emulator on my 8MHz ARM2-powered A3000. Not quick.
Then I discovered Angband - a complete revelation with a vastly expanded monster selection, more races, vaults, and colour.
The current state of the art in Rogue-like games is Zangband which takes things to the next plane with quests, NPCs, huge wilderness levels, terrain and lots more of everything.
(Oh, the Z? Stands for Zelazny. Many of the races and creatures are from the Amber books.)

Hmmmm....Lessee....
My handle is Yendor. The object of some/most of these games is the retrieval of something called the Amulet of Yendor. My normal handle is Rodney, which has been known to be the default character name in some of these games.
But nah. I've never played a single one. ;-)

Nit
Rouge is something old ladies put on their cheeks to effect youth.
Rogue is the grand-daddy of all the Rogue-like games.

You Heathen! Text mode Diablo?
You hear the little girl's father slapping someone.
You got it the wrong way around. Diablo is a graphical Hack/Nethack/Larn/Rogue/etc.
In Nethack, I've gotten to the Astral Planes twice. I've actually won Larn, which featured an interesting magic system and a mid-game "But... But... But... I thought I was done!"
