The first is that a bunch of Perl hackers got tired of having to reinvent wheels when writing JavaScript. Enter [link|http://openjsan.org/|http://openjsan.org/], which seeks to become the JavaScript version of CPAN.
The second is that the crazy Pugs people (the ones who are writing a proof of concept Perl 6 compiler in Haskell) just added another back end. In addition to compiling Perl 6 to Haskell, C, and Parrot, you can now compile it to JavaScript! Well, the part of Perl 6 that they have implemented, anyways. (But that part keeps on getting bigger and bigger...)
