You could just add IP Addresses to the NIC, then seperate Samba instances on each IP Addr. Giving them each a seperate NETBIOS name.

It would work, but dang.

Also, would it be worth updating to a newer version of Samba?

The decision is yours to make.

The NFS gateway approach will work, but no where close to what you might expect.

Have you tried a "RedHat RPMS" install and attempt to communicate through them.

The worst part is that it is the ever moving target of Windows. Once you get past a certain point, it changes its functionality or performance.

Plus, we all know SAMBA is a thorn in M$es side.

If you need another course of action there is another. An IPX Gateway sharing and using the IPX stuff for Linux too. Though I'd love to see the faces of the Windows admin when it is suggested. The IPX stuff is quite fast too.
