I have the sonypi device loaded.

It doesn't seem to affect ACPI. It does make the jogdial work, though. I'll have another look at it.

I'll have a look at the Dell link. I've already scoured the SourceForge link.

Running a newer kernel could be done, though I have to do some very tricky stuff with a diskette the first time, as I made /boot too small to support more than one kernel. :-(

Bummer man.

Use knoppix to square around your partitions and file systems. Shouldn't be too hard.
