SEATTLE - Amazon.com Inc. is planning a concert featuring music legend Bob Dylan and sultry songstress Norah Jones to celebrate its 10th anniversary next month.

The concert will be streamed live on the Internet retailer's home page the evening of July 16 \ufffd 10 years after Chairman and CEO Jeff Bezos officially launched the virtual bookstore.

Acerbic comedian Bill Maher will serve as host for the actual concert at Benaroya Hall. Maher, of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," is author of the upcoming book "New Rules: Polite Musings of a Timid Observer."

Amazon's Seattle-area employees will be invited to attend. Tickets will not be sold to the general public.

While no other names were disclosed, Amazon said the concert will feature additional musical performances, readings by authors and behind-the-scenes footage from "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," one of Amazon's hottest-selling DVDs.

New It may be cool if
You're a fan.

Heard of Dylan. Can't recall any of his songs.
Never heard of the others.

I'd pass and stay home and watch baseball game.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail ... but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"
New What - you never heard/sang 'Blowin' in the Wind'?
Did they lock you in a closet in day care?

New Do I hear a list for "The Dylan Hour" being prepared?
;-) You do have [link|http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/subterranean.html|Subterranean Homesick Blues], don't you?

He also did some silly song that I can't find at the moment - he's laughing and cutting up with several other people during it. Probably some song about drugs. ;-)

His voice went to hell, but Dylan could write and perform some interesting [link|http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/|songs].

Cheers,
Scott.
New Funny
I've got about 5 Dylan tunes in the current (pre-edited) version of the playlist. Subterranean is one of those tunes. I have quite a bit of that list in my mp3 collection.

New Not really.
But if I had a hammer...

...there'd be no more folk singers.

And I'm no respecter of "The Classics" or the musical "Establishment".

New :-)
I'm curious about your musical taste: Did it change suddenly when you were young?

I really liked "The Damned" when I was in school in Cincinnati. That kind of stuff is too noisy for me now.

Cheers,
Scott.
New I don't think so
Although I did have something of an epiphany circa 1991, when I realised that I really, really liked The Orb. (Which I have a tendency to mingle with things like Napalm Death, Richie Hawtin and Qntal)

I've always had an ear for thrash/death metal, and I think that Tom Petty is a thousand times the singer/songwriter that Dylan is/was.

My musical taste doesn't fit neatly into any one category, apart from "hates folk music" :-)

New Hey, I like them
I'm a metal head, too, but I do have a softer side. Must be the estrogen.
New I enjoy a good Peter Paul and Mary tune.
I like their PBS specials, too.

New The first song I sang to my daughter
in the hospital after she was born was "We Shall Overcome". It happened to be the song running through my head at the time. I wonder how this has shaped her little psyche.

I don't care how old you are, or the fact that Mr. zimmerman couldn't carry a tune in an oil barrel (topical humor... ;-) ), that sentence marks you as a Philistine, sir!

Most of that sounds fun, except the Bob Dylan part.

I'm not a Bob Dylan fan.

Cheers,
Ben

and it sounds like there will be lots more to see.

New Morose Bob- allus deemed him a far better skewerer-via-folk-
-song -- of pompous asses (and the slogans of pompous asses) than - any writer of catchy tunes. That and.. his being extremely full-of-himself - and fucking-over Joan Baez in a public, cruel and juvenile manner - kinda clinched the review, for me.

But his skewering.. probably woke up a %significant portion of young drones without a Clue about current events / of what was going down Then and still. For that - I'll cut him a lot of slack for being personally, and often, a pukka twit.
