There's a few AS/400 types lurking around here.
RPG and JCL cannae be all THAT different between OS/400 and OS/390, can it?

Totally different beasties.
I just got word that we'll be getting a mainframe package running on an emulator on a PC.
It's been 20+ years since I've played with JCL... and I don't miss it one bit!

I was under the impression the RPG was close.
The JCL, on the otherhand, hugely different.

No JCL in OS/400; it's CL and vastly dfferent.
I never encountered RPG on OS/390 at all... A quick google shows nothing, but then, I am not a mainframer any more. Maybe.
They are talking at work about getting emulated OS/390 on a PC to run a new software package. I may have to dust of braincells I haven't used in 20 years... *sigh*

Ahh - such a surprise.
Just a whee bit of a vested interest.
We've got about 70% of our processing pulled off the mainframe, as compared to 2 years ago.
We will "replace" it with a baby version as soon as the lease is up. There is certain processing for a certain division that is not worth the effort to move off, as long as the baby MF works for the job. No new development is going on it, and we are actively moving away whenever we can.
