Bruce Grobbelaar believes Jerzy Dudeks dramatic extra-time double save was the turning point in Liverpools spectacular Champions League final victory win against AC Milan.
Much-maligned goalkeeper Dudek shrugged off four years of criticism to produce a match-winning performance, going on to save two penalties in the shoot-out after the match finished 3-3.
Rafael Benitezs side produced perhaps the greatest comeback in European football history when they came from 3-0 down at half-time in Istanbul to draw thanks to goals by Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso.
After drawing level, Liverpool found themselves up against it in extra-time and with moments remaining, Dudek reacted brilliantly to prevent Andriy Shevchenko from scoring and instinctively stopped a follow-up on the rebound.
I heard on the BBC this morning that Liverpool may not be able to defend the title next year because they weren't in the top 4 in their country. (Rather strange rules if you ask me.)
How are folks over there taking the win and prospects for next year?
Cheers,
Scott.
