Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Webfacing Q.
Anybody got any experience with this? We have a webfacing app that I've deployed on a linux/apache/tomcat host. Once in a while (I'm still trying to figure out what the host is doing when this happens) the users of the webfacing app get a "time-out" error. My conjecture is that the host is too busy to respond to the request, but I have no compelling evidence of that yet. I know we exceed our interactive CPW limit at various times during the day and I thought that would be the culprit. But the time-outs don't appear to correlate with when we run out of interactive CPW's. It's not the network and the apache/tomcat logs show nothing wrong. This error is being raised inside the webfacing project itself - apache and tomcat don't crash. Anybody got any ideas/list of most likely suspects?

Frailing away here.

TIA.
bcnu,
Mikem

New if it was apache nix and oracle I would look at
the shared memory pool being not quite rightsized. Somewhere there is a bucket of short term memory that is at capacity.
thanx,
bill

New Thanks box.
I wish TF I knew how to config memory on the AS/400. But maybe the goobs we have under contract know about that foo. At least you gave me something to ask them.

New wrksyssts
BUT - most systems are set up to adjust automatically.

Check the system values (wrksysval) - you might look at qbaspool, qmaxactlvl, qmaxjob, qmchpool, and the automatic adjustment flag, qpfradj.

I dunno whether that'll help, but...

New Ours is set to adjust automatically.
I'm doing a tcpdump of all traffic from the tomcat host to the iSeries and from the tomcat host to the browsers. I'm hoping this thing will break soon.

Thanks for the info. Say, wanna move to the great frozen tundra of NE Indiana?

New *chuckle* Nah
Though the weather would prolly suit me better than Georgia's. One of the reasons I stayed here when the contract was done is that the team I'm working with really is a team. They are all really good at their jobs, and we all work (and play) together. Really.

My boss is technically capable, and, when he first came on, took the time to learn what we are each good at. He then lets us do our jobs with minimal interferance; he trusts our expertise, and knows when to keep his hands off. It's been a long time since I've had a work environment like this; I'm loathe to give it up.

Finally, I'm allowed to administer the '400 as I see fit; to top it off, I get to do some programming from time to time!

(you guys probably figured this out; it's been a long time since I've come to the forum crying in my beer...)

New Don't blame you.
It's a good place to work, but winter from October through April with no NHL really sucks. ;0)

New Okay, maybe we're getting somewhere.
One of the 400 programmers stumbled upon this in one of the myriad of logs on the 400:

Severity: 70
Message....: Session stopped by a request from device QQF0AI27E3.
Cause......: The request shutdown was caused by either the user turning the power
off, by a device error, or the ASCII controller inactivity timer expired.
Recovery...: Close the files and vary the device off (VRYCFG command). If the
problem occurs again, enter the ANZPRB command to run problem analysis.

Okay. how do I figure out WTF device QQF0AI27E3 is?

New Dunno. Maybe this will help.
Go [link|http://www.ibm.com/support/us/|here]. Enter "Primer on Message Analysis" in the "Search Technical Support" box. Click on returned link #1. There's a lot of info there on troubleshooting - but I didn't see a direct answer to your question.

(I'd give you a direct link but it seems to address-ify the link so it probably wouldn't work.)

HTH a bit. Luck!

Cheers,
Scott.
New It was returned link #11 for me.
With the same query. Imagine that.

New You really should move here.
You could buy a place up by a lake where I live and we'd commute by air anytime the weather allowed. Thanks again.
