According to MacWorld, here, the dashboard feature is "worse than you could imagine" and is the blueprint for a widget of mass destruction.

Citing a security expert who works under the moniker Stephan.com, Macworld claims that Safari 2.0\ufffds default preference settings could lead users to unwittingly download and install a dashboard widget.

Apparently Apple has trained JavaScript so that these widgets can do much a user can do. Now while many Apple users might think that is cool, users can also do things like delete files and format their hard drives.

This would make them an ideal target for a hacker who could craft a webpage or code fragment so that it could download a widget that can do some damage.
