A year or two back, it got really funny when it turned out that the CRIA was sitting on top of tens of millions of dollars of collected royalties without distributing it to the artists in question, at the same time that they were claiming to the CFRC that the levy didn't cover paying the artists and didn't generate enough money to pay them anyway.

Nobody takes the CRIA seriously, and any government that tries to go their route will get a rude awakening from the electorate... because We Already Pay For It. The CRIA is complaining because it means that we take out the middle man in the form of a company that makes a CD... which happens to be most of the membership of the CRIA.
