Let's play "what is wrong with this sequence?"

[root@localhost mike]# rpm -Uvh libxml-1.8.16-2.i386.rpm 
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
package libxml-1.8.16-2 is already installed
[root@localhost mike]# rpm -Uvh libxml-devel-1.8.15-ximian.2.i386.rpm 
error: failed dependencies:
\tlibxml = 1.8.15 is needed by libxml-devel-1.8.15-ximian.2

Now...My question would be WHY is this happening? Is it poor RPM packaging by the creators of the libxml-devel-1.8.15-ximian.2.i386.rpm package? IE, not requiring >= 1.8.15?

I thought RPM was supposed to be a good thing?

I've seen this exact type of thing happen too many times. I'm starting to really get pissed.

You need to have the same version of the devel package as the regular package...

You're trying to install an older devel package against a newer regular package.
