Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I had that happen.
I installed this module w/dpkg

[link|http://www.imrics.net/publish/nvidia-glx_1.0.6629+1-2_i386.deb|http://www.imrics.ne...6629+1-2_i386.deb]

And everything was right again.

What a PITA.

  • Paranoia Is a Survival Trait

As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New Tried that first
Turns out I was already several versions ahead of that. ( /var/cache/apt/archives/nvidia-glx_1.0.7167-1_i386.deb ) module-assistant did the trick though. Just rebuilt the module, rebooted, and I'm back. <peter>module-assistant is sex.</peter>

New /me keeps telling everyone that
But everyone keeps ignoring that point.

New If I were ignoring it, how'd I remember to do it?
I just needed the pointer to what module I needed to use it on.

New It's doing it again, and module-assistant isn't helping
I follow the same steps I saved for myself below. It still keeps telling me "Failed to load module GLCore (module does not exist, 0)". I tried commenting out GLCore in XF86Config and I still get "Failed to initialize the nvidia kenel module!"

New Update the whole thing
just updated to 7174.

You are going to have to restart into console and re-install with modules-assistant.

Makes sure you HAVE the nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-dev both installed. Versions are: 1.0.7174-3 (-1 for the common)

you might try a apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-glx nvidia-glx-dev nvidia-kernel-common

Make sure you have 1.0.7174-3+2.6.10-6 of nvidia-kernel-2.6.10-1-k7 (or whatever kernel you have)

New Can I do that under vmware from the Windows host?
Going to go try and see what happens.

New Looks like version problems
Currently have 1.0.7167-1 of nvidia-kernel. Hmm, not giving me 7174. How do I specify that?
