Although I find it interesting that a place as big as his can differentiate the entire e-mail manifest with just the first two letters of first and last name. Hence, my query....

There's an "onboarding" system that managers fill out for new hires - it presents you with half a dozen candidate logins based on your first and last name that are guaranteed to be unique. I have no idea what the algorithm is.
