ROCKS THE HOUSE!

More than a word processor - its a desktop publishing program for regular people, but it feels really simple to use. Yet it appears to be more powerful the MS Turd for simply creating rich documents. Multiple columns, text flow around graphics, ability to embed media, a nifty chart making tool, and your can export your creation as pdf, html, .doc, rtf, and plaintext (with complete loss of formatting). The word and html export quality is really quite good. It also reads word docs.

The truly striking thing though, is that the program appears to be sort of sparse. There's actually blank space on the toolbar and the controls seem simple, but they do powerful things (as opposed to typical MS stuff where the controls appear powerful but do almost nothing sensibly).

Lots of nifty layout template come with it and you can create your own.

The real kicker though - its found in iWork, which also includes a PowerPoint killer called KeyNote. Both for $79! I don't think either word standalone or powerpoint standalone was ever $79 on its own - here you get both.
