Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Having trouble configuring Eclipse for Java
Getting this:
The project was not built since its classpath is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for javax.servlet.ServletException. Fix the classpath then try rebuilding this project.
I've got the JRE System Library showing in the package explorer. Which, by the way, I can't figure out how to add more items to that list without creating a new project.

From the command line, CLASSPATH is empty, so somewhere in Ant, Tomcat and/or JRE configs are settings that resolve where stuff is installed. But I can't figure out how to get Eclipse to find what it needs.

New Not having used it, a pure guess:
DrooK omnplains:
From the command line, CLASSPATH is empty,
Maybe that's the problem?

so somewhere in Ant, Tomcat and/or JRE configs are settings that resolve where stuff is installed.
Maybe the problem is that there aren't? (As in, if the CLASSPATH env-var is empty, *no wonder* the IDE thinks "the classpath is incomplete"...(?))

But I can't figure out how to get Eclipse to find what it needs.
Have you tried setting the CLASSPATH environment variable before starting the IDE?

Not that I have the fucking faintest; just guessing... HTH, anyway.

New Left a detail out of my description
From the command line, everything works. I can compile, test, deploy and serve everything just fine. It's only the IDE that is complaining about the lack of CLASSPATH.

New Re: Having trouble configuring Eclipse for Java
That stuff is in your Tomcat installation.

$TOMCAT_DIR/common/lib/servlet-api.jar, although for purposes of compilation you probably just want to add everything under the common directory.

New But *how* do I add them?
I know where the files are, but I can't figure out how to tell Eclipse about them. When I created the project, I was able to define all the libraries that it would reference. I apparently missed a couple. Now I can't figure out how to add more references.

New Project Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries
Add external library.

New No luck
I don't see a 'Project Properties' menu item. I select the project in the Package Explorer and select properties and get "No property pages for JDoc". (JDoc is the name of the project.)

New Sounds like a corrupted project or something.

New Ok, since it's not working anyway ...
I'll delete it and try to re-import. I see that Eclipse has cvs integration. If I plan on using cvs would it be better to put it in cvs first check out from cvs straight into Eclipse, or import to Eclipse and create the repository from within Eclipse?

New Eclipse -> CVS
All the Eclipse project files will be where they are supposed to be and it is the easiest route by far.
New Thanks for the feedback
