New LANSA?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not -- if this should be in one of the programming forums, my apologies. But these kind of development tools sort of blur the lines, so I thought this forum was a safer bet.

The company I work for is moving to a new development tool called LANSA. They're doing so because they've been using Synon for quite a while, Synon hasn't been improved in five years, and they thought it was a good idea.

Me, I don't know Synon from LANSA from Visual C++. But I'm curious about LANSA because some of the guys I work with who have looked it over seem awfully impressed with it. Have any of you worked with it at all? Is it a decent environment to work in? All I know about it is that it's ridiculously expensive.

New It can have...
All those thing inside it. It is a complete production applications developement system, or as some like to call it a RAD.

Accordingly the support looks rather decent: [link|http://www.lansa.com/support/index.htm|http://www.lansa.com/support/index.htm]

looks to include:
  • .Net
  • Java
  • XML
  • RPG
  • Synon
Runs on these Platforms:
  • OS/400
  • Windows
  • Linux
  • UNIX

It can't be all bad. It incorporates eveyrthing you have been doing and combines it with new schtuff. Visual C++ could prolly be in there too. I do know that quite a few BIG companies used to swear by it, but I don't see them in the [link|http://www.lansa.com/casestudies/americas.htm|List].

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]

Hopefully it was a very temporary victory of the ignorant.
