The Kent State student being sued by Microsoft for selling his student copy of Office on eBay has just [link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/03/11/ms_zamos_ebay/|settled]. Background: He bought Office at the student bookstore at student rate. Discovered that due to either licensing terms or system requirements (this was not clear in the articel I read) he was "unable" to install it. Took the software back to the store, which refused a refund. (Sound familiar yet?) So he listed it on eBay. MS promptly sued.

Then things took a left turn to Wierdsville. He countersued. And MS said, "Well really, we don't want to have to go to court over this after all. How about we settle this thing?" And he said, "No." Made them sweat. How he's settled. I wonder what it took?

Oh, and of course there's a confidentiality clause, so we'll never know for sure.
