New Ah, the wonders of OS X...
I'm continually being delighted with how slick this system is.

Yesterday I migrated my e-mail from Eudora X to Mail.app. I got tired of waiting for them to come out of beta. Other than that, I really like their product and would recommend it over OE.

I've never used Mail in any big way before and I'm very impressed. The one minor nit is that Rules aren't as powerful as in Eudora but Mail makes up for it in other ways. The 'Bounce Message' button alone is going to be *sweet*!

Another neat tool: Watson. It's essentially a front-end for Web services such as moviefone.com and Yahoo!, which allows you to query and grab the essential data without futzing with all that excess HTML and it will even auto-update in the case of stock quotes and similar data. Kind of hard to describe, but seriously cool to use. It's at [link|http://www.karelia.com/watson/|[link|http://www.karelia.com/watson/|http://www.karelia.com/watson/]]
(Shareware, $US30, but full-function demo is available.)

I'm just totally digging on this today for some reason.....

New Best thing I've noticed about 10.1
(apart from the way my iBook no longer feels about as fast as my Duo230...)

It's put an end to my frustration now you can restore a minimised app by clicking on the app icon on the dock, instead of just the document icon. Used to annoy me no end, it did.

On and on and on and on,

New Apple finally advertising OS X
Got the 12/3 issue of Time magazine yesterday.

Inside the front cover was a two page ad showing a Cinema Display with the OS X desktop.

The headline?

We Only Have a Monopoly on Compliments

surrounded by excerpts from rave reviews of OS X. (Specifically 10.1)

(That quote may not be exact. I'm doing it from memory.)

Though I've been full-time in X since last March, I feel like I only recently am coming into my own using the environment. I didn't think it would be that tough to get rid of my OS 9/8/etc. habits but apparently it was. Now I feel completely comfortable in OS X and am having a ball.

(Of course, I recently picked up a Rev. B TiBook, which helps a lot as well.)

New Correction

The Only Monopoly We Have is on Compliments.

Genua had once controlled the river mouth and taxed its traffic in a waythat couldn't be called piracy because it was done by the city government. -- Local-body politics explained (Terry Pratchett, Witches Abroad)
New Watson RULEZ
I downloaded it today and paid for it.

The movies alone is worth it. (I already wrote a stock ticker app for yahoo for a family member).

I may do a module for this thing.

New Reminds me a bit of Webmin
The elegance of the basic idea: Modular, efficient, flexible.

There are beginning to be a lot of cool little apps like this coming out for OS X. This just confirms that by giving away developer tools is going to pay off big-time for Apple.

"Oh. And...Mrs. Tilly, I think you wrote a lovely well-spelled and grammatical letter to us suggesting that everyone under the age of eighteen should be flogged once a week to stop them being so noisy?"\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t- (Terry Pratchett, The Truth)
New Comment on your .sig
Terry Pratchett knew me online a few years ago.

I suspect that that may be a reason why when he was looking for a name he dug out a last name of "Tilly". :-)

Cheers,
Ben
New Hadn't even noticed that...
Cool!

I've been a fan for a few years now and gobble up the new Discworld titles as soon as they come out (in paperback, anyway). I just finished reading 'The Truth' over Thanksgiving break and this quote struck me as one for the .sig file.

Our garden was debated territory between five local cats, and we'd heardthat the best way to keep other cats out of the garden was to have oneyourself. A moment's rational thought here will spot the slight flaw inthis reasoning. -- (Terry Pratchett, The Unadulterated Cat)
