Welcome to IWETHEY!

New The Beret Has Landed
And she's a beaut! She arrived at the office today and I couldn't resist popping her out of the box and onto the bench for a quick power up test.

Ophelia (for all my computers are named after Shakespearean characters) is a 466MHz Graphite G4 with 512MB RAM and a Radeon 9000, hosting 110GB of disk (80+30). And she's GAWJUS. Running OS 10.3.8. While she's pre-installed, I will be flattening the disks anyway because (a) it's chocka with software of most dubious legality and (b) I have no need of OS 9.2.2, so I'll have the disk space back, ta very much.

Ariel has taken great umbrage at the upcoming appearance of this interloper and has decided to sulk; the PSU gave out at 0457 on Sunday, which is why you can't see my pic at the moment.

I intend to migrate the services hosted on Ariel (WWW, IMAP, SMTP, DNS and IPCHECK) to Ophelia just as soon as I can get Ariel up and running again. (I'm going to give [link|http://www.roadstead.com/weblog/Tutorials/PostfixEnabler.html|this] a bash). I imagine that things will also be Finktastic, at least for serverstuffs.

After that, I will probably use Ariel as a test box. I've been meaning for some time to get Solaris 10 evaluated and have not had the opportunity.

New Do it Peter...
Sun 10 that is. (and all the other stuff). I haven't tried the x86 version, but the Sparc version on my Sunblade 1000 rocks. It's almost absurd seeing the Java Desktop System (can you say GNOME?, I knew you could) as an option to CDE. CDE works as expected and (at least on my box) subjectively is much perkier than 2.9 or 2.8... In fact, the kernel "feels" faster. Very hard to quantify, but true in my eyes.

The installation was a breeze, yes, that's right, a breeze. Installation pre-installed tcsh, bash and most of gnu tools. The hardest adjustment that I've had to make was the obscure Sun Administrator crap... I never thought that I would miss admintool or dtadmin, but... Well, see for yourself.

If only Apple would hurry up and buy Sun, then we could justify posting this in the Mac forum. ;-)

Just a few thoughts,

Danno
New Installation in progress...

New What's that trident pitchfork tuningfork thingy?
New That be Psi, the Jabber client.
I only discovered it had an OSX port this evening. Well chuffed.

The interface will make OS X and Aqua purists vomit (it's horrible, badly designed and illogical) but as a Jabber client, it's very well-behaved and featureful.

New He is scared of Exim...
Tooo flexible, too po'erful.

Well, he claims because there are no "tools" for it and claims lack of familiarity.

I just think he is scared.

New "Continuous"?
Hardly. I call him (and anyone else) when I think they're wrong; I very rarely post just to get a rise, because, for me, that got old about 10 years ago on USENET.

I seemingly cannot post just lately without you attempting a lame troll. That's probably overstating things, but it's the way it feels.

It's silly, it's not funny, and it's making me very >:( with a side of :-|

Seriously. I'm asking nicely. Please give it a rest.
