New Mac mini lost in couch
[link|http://www.suntimes.com/output/worktech/cst-fin-andy181.html|Apple's compact Mini sure to lure Mac-phobic buyers]
The Mac Mini is the first desktop computer that I've ever lost inside my sofa.

I didn't have time to set it up on the day it arrived, and a week later I found myself nervously retracing my steps. ("OK. I know I was eager to look at it, so I took it out of the box. Then I took it upstairs with the rest of the mail, which I read while watching TV sitting on the ... no, it couldn't be there, could it?")

Indeed it was, safely tucked between the cushion and the armrest.

New small is beautiful, but...
The ever-amusing Ihnatko writes
It's a maneuver worthy of a Romulan. Mac Minis will be the first Apples in a hitherto all-PC corporate network. They'll make up the first Mac lab in a school system, and it's the computer that moms and dads will buy for the family room.
My younger brother is the "Media Librarian" at UC Santa Cruz ("Damn," I have grumbled to him times past, "you have the job that should have been mine." "And you have the salary that should have been mine," he replies), and has the care, feeding and procurement authority for for a few mainly-Mac computer labs. When he saw the Mini his first thought was "There's no way I'm going to stock my labs with computers small enough to fit in a backpack," from which I gather that now, as 35 years ago, undergraduates are imperfectly socialized (been there, done that, stole the tee-shirt).

cordially,
Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist.
New Re: small is beautiful, but...
They make locks for them. Have him visit a CompUsa (or any other student computer lab) to see how they work.

From Apple's [link|http://www.apple.com/macmini/|mini] page
Upgrade Your School Lab

Replace your PCs with Mac minis and spend your time teaching advanced topics instead of basic computer maintenance. You already have the keyboards, mice and monitors you need. A Kensington lock in the security slot keeps the machines from walking away by themselves.
