small is beautiful, but...
The ever-amusing Ihnatko writes
It's a maneuver worthy of a Romulan. Mac Minis will be the first Apples in a hitherto all-PC corporate network. They'll make up the first Mac lab in a school system, and it's the computer that moms and dads will buy for the family room.
My younger brother is the "Media Librarian" at UC Santa Cruz ("Damn," I have grumbled to him times past, "you have the job that should have been mine." "And you have the salary that should have been
mine," he replies), and has the care, feeding and procurement authority for for a few mainly-Mac computer labs. When he saw the Mini his first thought was "There's no way I'm going to stock my labs with computers small enough to fit in a backpack," from which I gather that now, as 35 years ago, undergraduates are imperfectly socialized (been there, done that, stole the tee-shirt).
