Aside from that, go to security center again, on the left hand side under "resources", the bottom choice says "change the way Security Center alerts me". Check/uncheck the appropriate boxes.

They now want you to turn on ALL Auto updates and Firewall by default.

I bought a new machine for my Step-mum (she didn't want to wait for me to build one)

I literally had to yank out a swath of Registry just to get the bloody thing to shutup.

She doesn't use the Internet, has no e-mail, not even AOL on dialup. Nor an local ISP for dial-up.

She uses good old fashioned snail-mail and the Telephone.
