Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Turning off Auto Updates "Alert".
I turned off Auto Updates in XP Home because I don't trust M$ to shove stuff on my computer without me knowing about it.

Of course, now every time I boot up I get an idiotic error message telling me that *gasp!* my computer may be at risk! Because Auto Updates has been turned off and helpfully suggesting I click a button to "fix this problem".

Now, assuming that clicking that button won't actually install a new Intel version of OS/X or Linux or something to really "fix this problem" I am not going to do so. And yet. . . .I can't get that $@(*$^@(%@$(*^@$(*@^&) message from popping up all the time. And it's annoying the crap out of me.

Hence, I was wondering if the panel has a way to get rid of the damn thing.

New Are you sure you disabled it?

Aside from that, go to security center again, on the left hand side under "resources", the bottom choice says "change the way Security Center alerts me". Check/uncheck the appropriate boxes.

New Actually in SP2...
They now want you to turn on ALL Auto updates and Firewall by default.

I bought a new machine for my Step-mum (she didn't want to wait for me to build one)

I literally had to yank out a swath of Registry just to get the bloody thing to shutup.

She doesn't use the Internet, has no e-mail, not even AOL on dialup. Nor an local ISP for dial-up.

She uses good old fashioned snail-mail and the Telephone.

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]

It's their own fault! If they wanted to break the law without consequences, they should have gone into banking.
