Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Having hernia surgery tomorrow
I finally decided to do it and figured the middle of February is as good a time as any.

In truth, the timing worked out well, I am having the surgery and should be recovered before I start my new job.

I hope all goes well. Hopefully tomorrow night I will be able to post how things are going.
New Break a leg.
Er, or something :-)

Best of luck.

New I'm back
The surgery went fine I am in a lot of pain now. The doctor said that the first 2 days are tough, then it starts getting etter. I certainly believe him about the first 2 days.
New Sympathy, but I'm glad to hear it
Pain means that you're still alive. It's better than the alternative.

Cheers,
Ben

New you're back at home ..
can't be doing too badly...
hospitals are lonely places. Be glad you aren't still there. The pain will go away and you'll forget all about it. Likely, you'll always remember why you had the surgery though and any stories to go with it.
Have fun,

New It was outpatient surgery
The place was like an assembly line. It is amazing how many hernia surgeries are done. At least I know that my doctor is experienced he does them one after the other a few days a week.

It was a little scary that they must have asked me 5 times which side the surgery was supposed to be on. I guess better safe then sorry.

New Don't accept the pain
Pain can be controlled, easily, but only if you are willing to argue with your Dr.

Remember, all pain medication dosages are based on the fact that 50% of the people at the average weight said it helped. That has NOTHING to do with you, the way you feel pain, the amount of painkillers you need, etc.

According the dosage guides, they can double or quadruple the amount, as long as the patient keeps asking.
New Right now I am just taking non-prescription painkillers
I actually was able to sleep ok. I would rather not take anything stronger if I don't have to.
New That's just the pair of pliers he left inside
j/k :-)

New Things going well
I will be going back to work tomorrow. I am not supposed to do any heavy lifting for a month after the surgery, other then that I can basically do anything.
New use that line on women,
tell them you need help going to the bathroom :-) glad it OK

New I hope so
The area of the incision is still swollen and hurts but I can walk around freely and the doctor said that this is normal.

Too much reading can be bad for you. I have been reading about hernia postop and of course most of the people who write are those with horror stories, the person who had everything go well doesn't bother. It is scary to hear about all the problems people have after surgery. I know that this is a small percentage but it still scares me.

All I can do is wait and hope that my recovery continues.
