New Review request: Other portable music players?
I know about the iPod, and how cool it is.

But I've heard about these portable MP3 players that can do cool things like get radio reception, and even record radio. If they can handle Ogg Vorbis format, that would be way cool, too.

Does anyone have reviews of any devices of these types? I want to be able to listen to my music collection (about 1000 songs currently, half .ogg and half .mp3), as well as be able to record "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" from NPR for later listening.
TIA,
-YendorMike

New Rio Karma has OGG support
Don't recall hearing of any others supporting OGG.

New iRiver supports ogg.
Which is why I bought [link|http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1077625453292&skuId=6387714&type=product|one] for my son instead of something else.

New These days I'd say ipod shuffle is the better deal
If you can lay hands on one that is.

New Yep.
They weren't available for Christmas. The missing OGG support is still problematic, too.

New Where does one get ogg encoded content?

New From one's own CDs, usually.
And the music from UT2K4.

New I have one
It didn't do real good as a jogging companion. It started to skip and lose track of it's position, but makes a fairly good stationary unit. It can be connected via USB of course, but also can be plugged into the LAN. Once configured this way, you connect to it through your web browser on your computer. It has a Java based program to manage your music, including uploading and downloading. I haven't really gotten around to re-ripping my music in OGG version yet though.

New I saw something the other day that can do Ogg.
In fact, it's starting to appear in advertisments. One device claims it can do Ogg Vorbis at Q10!

I'm partial to MiniDisc myself, but that's mostly because I've never really bought into putting my music on the computer. The new HiMD devices can function very much like an iPod-class device, especially as the new HiMD disc is 1Gb in size and ATRAC3plus is very likely as good or better than AAC. (I haven't been able to convince the fiancee that AU$500 is worth spending on one...)
