Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Just checked out Houston's second Fry's
It's near NASA so it has a space theme. While not exactly original(the McDonalds in the area has a [link|http://www.eideindustries.com/index/Awnings/misc/Custom%20Structures%20&%20Protectors/Misc_Shuttle01_l.jpg|McShuttle]), it is very well done. The ceiling is painted black and there's lot of space craft hanging from it. Astronauts hang out over the registers and entry way. The employees have been photographed in a space suit for the "John Doe maintains this section" plaques. It looks quite a bit different than the NASA theme at the [link|http://www.toxicbug.com/frys/gallery.php?id=ca_anaheim|Anaheim] store.

Fry's #3 is going up a couple miles from where I work. No theme is apparent from the outside, the building and sign are nondescript.

Houston's first Fry's has an [link|http://www.toxicbug.com/frys/gallery.php?id=tx_houston|oil industry] theme. I like it's oil gusher sign.

New Our's has a "warehouse" theme :/

New San Diego Frys seems to have the same theme
I liked the Burbank Frys. It has a 50's SciFi theme.

Didn't get around to any of the other LA area Frys, but heard they were interesting too.

New Same up here.
I've heard that Fry's is no longer theming their new stores.
"Here at Ortillery Command we have at our disposal hundred megawatt laser beams, mach 20 titanium rods and guided thermonuclear bombs. Some people say we think that we're God. We're not God. We just borrowed his 'SMITE' button for our fire control system."
New The 2nd Houston store just opened
less than 2 weeks ago.

New Possibly only where they see an advantage
LA (Hollywood) area they set up movie themes, Houston: Space themes. These are areas where the theme matches a primary draw to the area.

I'm kinda surprised that Frys San Diego didn't do an ocean theme, but I guess the store is too far away from Sea World and the beaches. Maybe a safari theme with the SD zoo and Wild Animal Park in the area.

New Considering where it was built...
...an airplane theme would have been appropriate for ours, considering it was built on the old Boeing grounds in Renton.

New Still trying to figure out the theme at the Chicago store
which is really located in Downers Grove, a suburb approximately 25 miles west of the city. Went there Friday night. saw some old time pictures on the walls, but didn't see anything that truly stood out as the symbol for the theme.

One interesting thing is that Fry's in Houston generally has a 8 page insert, full newspaper sized, in the Friday edition of the Houston Chronicle (daily newspaper). Here in Chi-town you're lucky if you get the back page of a section before the weekend.

New I think I just drove by on Sat....
I had to go to Galveston to attend a wedding on a ship.

I drove by a Fry's off of I-45 near NASA, the parking lot was full.

I joked with my wife that we should stop on the way back, she growled at me because it was supposed to be a "computer free" weekend. Her sister was getting married.

New That was it.
