New Re: Enterprise blog recommendations?
For dead-simple weblogging, [link|http://wordpress.org/|Wordpress] beats everything else hands-down. It's very customizable, has built-in syndication and commenting (with some anti-spam measures by default and more available), and allows you to mingle PHP into its templates to get whatever you need. It's also very easy to get rolling -- they claim a five-minute install, and in my experience that's pretty spot-on.

New Interesting site. Amazingly fast web pages!
Of course, they aren't very complicated but they appear ~ instantly. Very nice layout too.

They have a link on the WordPress ScreenShots page to [link|http://www.opensourcecms.com/|opensourceCMS.com] which has links to lots of other similar applications including [link|http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=com_reporter&queryId=32&menuGroup=OSCMS|this] page of user ratings. I had no idea there was a site like that. I'll have to dig around there....

Thanks very much for the link!

Cheers,
Scott.
New If you're looking for more "CMS"-style features...
I can't recommend [link|http://textpattern.com/|Textpattern] enough. I keep hearing good things about Drupal and Mambo, but I think they're a bit too complex to set up and manage. (My view on a CMS is that I should be able to configure it and then hand it over to the client; if they need to come back to someone like me to manage and update their site, then the CMS isn't doing its job.)

New Wish they mentioned the Postgres port more
[link|http://wiki.wordpress.org/?pagename=ReleaseNotes|This] says it's working, but the installation instructions and requirements don't mention it. There's a Debian package for v1.2.2, which should include the Postgres backend, but the package requires you install MySQL (which I'd rather not). Guess I'll download and install from tarball and try it out.

[edit] Well damn. That page above says that PHPWiki 1.2 has Postgres support, not WordPress 1.2.

New There's a 1.2.1 WordPress for PosgreSQL
[link|http://wordpress-pg.sourceforge.net/|WordPress-pg]. But you probably already found it.

WordPress-Pg v1.2.1-1.0

Sloppily ported to PostgreSQL by Keenan Tims (ktims@gotroot.ca). Source codebase is the 6-Oct-2004 release of WordPress 1.2.1.

Another bit of discussion of WP-PostgreSQL is [link|http://wordpress.org/support/7/549|here].

It doesn't sound like a trivial port.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Yup, I read those threads
If I weren't trying to learn java I'd give the port a shot. Maybe next month ...

New I found a nice tabled comparison page
A few months old, but still...
[link|http://www.asymptomatic.net/blogbreakdown.htm|http://www.asymptoma...blogbreakdown.htm]
New But WordPress only supports one weblog, right?
So if I had 40 bloggers, I'd need 40 Apache processes, or is there another way I'm not seeing? ;)
New Re: But WordPress only supports one weblog, right?

WordPress supports multiple authors, and with [link|http://www.coffee2code.com/archives/2004/08/27/plugin-customizable-post-listings/|this plugin] you should be able to construct per-author feeds.
