I was in the mood to experiment, so I stuck a hard drive in a test machine and installed ubuntu/debian linux on an old Dell with a NVidia GForce2 GTS video card. Ubuntu loaded a slew of X apps and such but will only come up in text mode. Apparently Ubuntu does not like NVidia as there was a special how-to for installing NVidia drivers (no joy there either.) Knoppix correctly identifies the video card and comes up properly. Anybody have any suggestions before I nuke this leper?

It took a number of tries, but that is easily attributable to my incompetence. Not the easiest install I've ever done, but the end result looks good. Once it was running I installed a lot of documentation. Rather, I asked for it and the system claimed that it installed it. Only trouble is, I can't find it. /usr/doc would have been my guess, but no joy. Any ideas?
