Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Once again it strikes me
amidst one of my few arguments here, how wonderful it is that such a large group of people, with such a diverse set of opinions can remain by and large friendly.

It's very easy to 'go off' on someone in text (or any time when you aren't face-to-face). I've done it, others have done it, many will in the future. Still the level of respect and friendly discourse remains (there HAVE been a few regrettable exceptions, but nothing's perfect) high.

This is a special place on the 'Net.

Thanks!

New You're dribblin' again... :)
Seriously, though, I love you all.

New What I think the difference is here.
"Going off" on some one here many more times than not means "going off on their thought/idea". That's geniune debate. And since we've lifted the taboo against "religion and politics" the debates here, at times, become heated. But it is almost always the person's idea that gets attacked and rarely the person him/herself. Especially in religious or political discussions, that is rare.

New So me taking Ross to task on his ideas...
Was seen as bad?

According to Ross it was. Dunno. I am just a little ole puter putzer. Not some big Ole Mathematician.

Oh, I guess it is for the best.

New Quite the opposite.
Flaming an idea is never bad. Flaming a person OTOH is very bad form. Except of course, in the appropriate Forum. ;0)

New He started the personal attacks. With his
Southern Supremacy Theory and how the USA has gone down hill since the 1850s. HOW did HE know?

Then talking about the Dual Telescope thing... I argued that it was money very well spent, along with the flexible lenses. He just melted like a plastic "Green Army Man" under the Magnifying glass in Summer.

His final harmph was the fact I was taking him to task on his blatant statements in the Science forum. I believe over the Telescope issue.

Just like he did in the Linux Forum for me, with advice on howto "blacklist things" and many other things. Like GRUB is a GNU HORRIBLE IDEA... etc... He stooped low enough to actually start calling ANYONE that used Debian a Socialist/Commie or some such.

I'll admit, I hammered Norm... and hopefully atoned for it.

Ross, just blew apart like an incendiary grenade. At the mere mention of BullShiite on his "statements".

New It was about negativity for me
Ross was so negative about everything, and so vehement against specific things that it just got to me. Maybe it shouldn't have, but it did.

As for Norm, one must remember when considering him, that his entire goal up here was to get himself hammered by people. At least that is what he admitted to us.

If someone is hell-bent upon getting flamed, abused and mistreated, that someone is likely to find a way to do it.
