No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]
New Well you could always open a window
and see decent performance tools. But its highly debateable whether the average user needs such idiot lights cluttering up the menu bar full time. There are better things to do with the pixels.

New There is an included monitor
[link|http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-2393.html|Activity Monitor] shows the same info, but takes up more display room either in 1+ windows or as dock icons.

I keep my dock hidden so I would use them in a window whenever I was interested in the info.

The menu bar applet works good for me - the Mac's menu bar is there pretty much all the time, and it's got quite a bit of vacant space on a 20" widescreen display.
