New iBook from Oregon - preliminary report
This was, as readers may recall, a 1GHz processor (current entry-level is 1.2) with 768MB RAM and a 60GB hard disk. I ordered it at close of business Monday (the unit was the only one of its configuration, and had been placed on "hold" by someone who had not troubled to call back by 1725 PST) and it arrived here at mid-day for a modest $32 in shipping, of which amount I am apparently entitled to a rebate of fifteen-sixteenths after jumping through the usual hoops. I had expected a mere "Airport" card, but it has apparently been tricked out with the faster "Airport Extreme" jobbie. Total cost $1051 (the SO can pick up her own damn copy of VPC—I'm tapped for the season), and barring unpleasant surprises (the machine is absorbing its first charge, and is two hours from maiden boot) I'm inclined to give this one five stars, retail experiencewise.
