New LDAP driven NIS, KRB5, SAMBA and AFS
At least that is what I am aiming for.

I dunno about you, but the best I can do so far is the KRB5 and SAMBA.

NIS is tricky... I have to do some data covnersion (or duplication) trickery to get it to work. Which of course... I haven't gotten to work yet.

My next thing after the NIS is to get AFS running so I don't have to worry about all the UID and GID numbers and anything else in ACL or what have to work properly.

New We had NIS at one place I worked.
Once setup, it worked very solidly and very effectively. Setting it up was a bit of a trial, though, as we discovered that NIS on FreeBSD doesn't interoperate well enough to be useful with NIS on RedHat Linux (ouch). And that NIS is essentially broken on one particular FreeBSD version. And setting it up always strikes me as a bit bizarre.

Is there something better on the horizon?
