New Could be lots of things
The best thing to do is to get the latest Alsa code and build it. Then you are not at the mercy of the distribution.

New Defeats my purpose.
I'm looking for a livecd debian distro that installs to a hd without problems. That actually WORKS with apt-get, so that I can give it out to Windows folk. That way, they can use it, and when they decide they like it, they can install it and easily keep it up-to-date as well as easily find and install new software. Kanotix is the closest I've seen so far.

Compiling isn't really an option.
