Does it nark you that a non-programmer like me can write code that does useful work in your language of choice?

You seem quite sniffy on this subject.

Of course, you'll understand that the business benefits of diverting a full-time developer to the problem of parsing Backup Exec log files are minimal at best.

So instead of pissing and moaning, I wrote the code. It sucks! But it works! And it works almost well!

The problem with this is what?

I apologize.

As long as it is a limited task and can't cause data breakage, more power to you.

I just seem to spend a lot of emergency FIX IT NOW time trying to fix data damaged by people who thought they were programmers. I've lost a lost of weekends that way.
