New Heard on CSPAN.
Brian <forgot last name> the host of most CSPAN broadcasts said that he didn't think anyone cared anymore since 9/11. He said that while he "wished Tubin well" he did not think the book would "sell very well. Americans have largely gotten over it. There are still some hardline partisans, ... Democrats that think this is still very important" but that the majority have "moved on".

It's ironic, imNSho, that during this flag buying/waving/toting phase of our evolution we hold the ideals upon which this country has existed since at least Andy Jackson's reign in such little regard. If people like Brian and Beep here are correct, if most Americans have "gotten over it and moved on", then I'm curious about why so many Americans are buying US flags? If the "move on" crowd is correct, exactly what are we feeling "patriotic" about? Can't be the last election - the majority no longer think "democracy" is worth worrying too much over. Can't be the ATA - the Bill of Rights doesn't seem to be as important as "a little security". What do have left to be proud about? McDonald's?

New First off - it's never 'logical'. Doonesbury take:
What 'buying a flag' means to That person. Loved Nov 4 Sunday Doonesbury - where he points out to the Token Reactionary* character on his call-in show:

* every Reactionary invariably chooses to be called 'Conservative' or even {shudder} compassionate-. When M$ does that: we call it Spin. When a Reactionary does that - he calls self a Patriot, that last refuge of a ..

You guys hijacked the flag years ago, during the cold war, especially the Vietnam era, turning it into a symbol of unquestioning, jingoistic Nationalism.

Now it's back to being a symbol of patriotism and love of country, not a particular political agenda! So thanks for restoring it to all of us!

"Um, you're welcome, I guess.."

"We might want it back, though."

"No can do, Big Guy. Everyone's kind of attached now."
As to the rest, "gotten over it" - selective memory is two-edged; if you recall all the BS from a life, you'll start to sound like some er deranged characters.. around various places. Y'know?

But forgetting *The Basics* - now that takes real G\ufffdbbels-like talent, or at least makes one - his lawful prey. Then and *now*. IMhO - anyone who 'forgets' How the President got Selected, at any time *next*: well.. who wants to argue with Retards?

Just because your vocabulary is extremely limited doesn't mean the rest of the world can't use that word.
