The power supply's fan doesn't work, it's so clogged up I can barely turn it by hand. I gather its prior environment was extremely dusty. I found that out when I was installing a "PCI slot" fan. The PCI slot fan works well for now so I'm putting off fixing the other one until I'm feeling adventurous enough to take the power supply apart. I think this says a lot about Apple's design as the original CPU wasn't overheating with the broken fan.
Picked up Nanosaur II. Initially it would crash right away, but the [link|http://www.pangeasoft.net/nano2/downloads.html|latest patch] solved the problem.
Aspyr's response about the no-cars-on-highway glitch was "we don't support upgraded CPUs"(I gather no production systems had a 1.1GHz G3.) Not very impressive customer support in my book. I've done some googling and found out quite a number of people have that problem. The glitch also effects other things such as trains(I hadn't tried them before; but sure enough, I don't see any trains either). They all think that Sim City: Rush Hour was delayed because Aspyr has to finally address the bug - after all, how well would a "transportation enhancement" upgrade sell if you don't see any of it in action.
I wasn't able to pick up an iSight - everyplace I went to was sold out(also overheard a lot of people trying to get iPods, which were likewise sold out). The guy at CompUSA said "the channels are clearing out because a new model is due out in a few weeks."
Found out about [link|http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/quartz_extreme_PCI_mod.html|PCI Extreme], a small hack that enables hardware excellerated Quartz Extreme on PCI based video cards. I now getting the "rotating cube" with the fast user switching. Expose is also quite a bit snappier. There can be a slowdown on other things(due to PCI bus limits), but I've not noticed any with the 1.1 GHz G3.
