Eh?
I don't use Microsoft, and I drive a Honda and a Nissan, but no Toyota. Oh, and I don't give a flip about F1 (or any other kind of racing, except perhaps that which is performed on a human-powered bicycle.)
So...why me?

Look a couple of posts up :-P

Bah
I know enough about sports/F1 to know that John *was* talking about Michael Schumacher. Or however it's spelled. Didn't even consider myself.

And you expected an Australian to know that?

Oops
As you can tell, I don't care about the world of racing, and so had NFC who y'all were talking about.
My bad.
Cheers, Ben

Yes, I was making the Schumacher/Yendor 'Mike' connection.
Hmm.. that could almost be be the title of a John Grisham novel or something.

Robert Ludlum.
Meerkat coins a phrase: "the Schumacher/Yendor 'Mike' connection"
Hmm.. that could almost be be the title of a John Grisham novel or something. Naah; IIRC, anything like "The Ferdleburger Contract", "The Akvilonia Option", "The Alamo Connection", and so on -- i.e, pretty much anything along the pattern of "The" + <distinctive name> + <ordinary noun> -- would be a typical Ludlum title.

Your lies are of Microsoftian Scale and boring to boot. 'The Pelican Brief' must have been an homage :)
(and yes I'm using the 'an' rather tentatively :)

Or just coincidence; the pattern isn't all that unique.
It's just that Ludlum uses it *every time*, so it's really most typical of him.
(Or, if I wanted to quibble, I'd point out that "pelican" is more of another ordinary noun in that title, referring to the bird species in general; it's not a *name*, in the sense of being about some old "Colonel Joseph F. Pelican IV, USMC, Ret.", or anything... But I don't, so I won't. :-)
What's to be tentative about; I'm fairly sure I'd never pronounce "an homage" with an audible consonant at the beginning. (Which obviously means that anyone who would, must be pronouncing it wrong.)

Must admit to not having read either author.
So yep, I believe you.
(The process reminds me of many Dr Who stories* - almost always 'The Thing of Stuff', or, 'The Event of the Things'...)
As for homage, it's still more often than not pronounced as 'hommidge' on this uncultured isle. The rule of the street is it's OK to pronounce it 'properly', but make sure you're doing so with a degree of irony, lest you're branded a wanker :)
*Yes, I know, I can link a Dr Who reference to almost anything if I try hard enough...
