Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Bill's finding new things to spend money on.
Autoweek, July 5, 2004, p.50:

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates is negotiating to become the primary sponsor of the Toyota F1 team, to the tune of $40 million per season.

Bill's had an interest in cars for a long time (he's got a Porsche 959 in a warehouse, IIRC), but this sounds like much more than an interest in cars. Perhaps he's wanting to be another Penske.

"The William Henry Gates III / Toyota Formula 1 Race Team" has a strange ring to it...

Cheers,
Scott.
New Won't stop 'em sucking.
They had more money than Ferrari *before* this announcement.

Yes, you need money to succeed in F1. But that's not ALL you need.

New Right.
You need a red car driven by a guy named Mike.

Steve
New Oi, Yendor, you busy? Bill/Toyota wants a word :)
Edit: I can't type...

New Eh?
I don't use Microsoft, and I drive a Honda and a Nissan, but no Toyota. Oh, and I don't give a flip about F1 (or any other kind of racing, except perhaps that which is performed on a human-powered bicycle.)

So...why me?

New Look a couple of posts up :-P
To deny the indirect purchaser, who in this case is the ultimate purchaser, the right to seek relief from unlawful conduct, would essentially remove the word consumer from the Consumer Protection Act

New Bah
I know enough about sports/F1 to know that John *was* talking about Michael Schumacher. Or however it's spelled. Didn't even consider myself.

New Oops
As you can tell, I don't care about the world of racing, and so had NFC who y'all were talking about.

My bad.

Cheers,
Ben

New Yes, I was making the Schumacher/Yendor 'Mike' connection.
Hmm.. that could almost be be the title of a John Grisham novel or something.
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Robert Ludlum.
Meerkat coins a phrase:
"the Schumacher/Yendor 'Mike' connection"

Naah; IIRC, anything like "The Ferdleburger Contract", "The Akvilonia Option", "The Alamo Connection", and so on -- i.e, pretty much anything along the pattern of "The" + <distinctive name> + <ordinary noun> -- would be a typical Ludlum title.

Your lies are of Microsoftian Scale and boring to boot. Your 'depression' may be the closest you ever come to recognizing truth: you have no 'inferiority complex', you are inferior - and something inside you recognizes this. - [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=71575|Ashton Brown]
New 'The Pelican Brief' must have been an homage :)
(and yes I'm using the 'an' rather tentatively :)

Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Or just coincidence; the pattern isn't all that unique.
It's just that Ludlum uses it *every time*, so it's really most typical of him.

(Or, if I wanted to quibble, I'd point out that "pelican" is more of another ordinary noun in that title, referring to the bird species in general; it's not a *name*, in the sense of being about some old "Colonel Joseph F. Pelican IV, USMC, Ret.", or anything... But I don't, so I won't. :-)

What's to be tentative about; I'm fairly sure I'd never pronounce "an homage" with an audible consonant at the beginning. (Which obviously means that anyone who would, must be pronouncing it wrong.)

New Must admit to not having read either author.
So yep, I believe you.

(The process reminds me of many Dr Who stories* - almost always 'The Thing of Stuff', or, 'The Event of the Things'...)

As for homage, it's still more often than not pronounced as 'hommidge' on this uncultured isle. The rule of the street is it's OK to pronounce it 'properly', but make sure you're doing so with a degree of irony, lest you're branded a wanker :)

*Yes, I know, I can link a Dr Who reference to almost anything if I try hard enough...

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please

-- "Anything but Ordinary" by Avril Lavigne.

New Reminds me of not being able to find a parking space...
...'cause all the rich people @ M$ ate up all the parking spaces with their toy cars instead of parking them at home.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.

New Microsofties are good at "Thinking outside the garage". :-)
New Wise man say....
...he who take last parking space needlessly get boxed in by Peter's old POS.
