I wondered what Darwinian moment had to effect itself before we devolved from children flying paper flags in the sky to half formed creatures thundering in a wall of horns down the road to Roncevaux. James Lee Burke

New He admits his craft has a purpose
That purpose is to get Bush out of the White House. He admits that he puts together the "facts" to support his point of view. Now, beyond the question of how those facts are pieced together, what is the problem with any one specific fact in the film that the weekly standard has a problem with?

If Fox was willing to admit that their news stories are edited with the explicit purpose of promoting the war and Bush, that would at least be honesty.
New It's a polemic
It's a time-honored political tactic, from when honor was timely. "Common Sense" comes to mind.

New Conservative AM talk radio station this morning
Pair of DJs said that somebody (didn't catch the name, damn Texas accents) can "prove" that 9/11 has 35 factual errors. Since I don't usually listen to the station, I don't know the station's URL so I can't see if they have a transcript, link, whatever. They were saying that a documentary should NOT have an opinion on the subject matter, and used National Geographic documentaries as their counterpoint.

New As Ebert pointed out..
..ALL documentaries have a point of view. This is hardly surprising, given that the are made by -GASP- human beings.

e.g. Ken Burn's "Civil War" series is heavily slanted to the Northern mythology - but that does not make it bad filmmaking. It's a viewpoint.

New National Geographic has a POV
Save the Rain Forests. Curb development in wildlife regions. Send money to ecologists to help preserve the planet.

All may be admirable goals, but to say that National Geographic documentaries don't have an opinion is a bit naive.
