So claims Eben Moglen, a Columbia University law professor, the general counsel for the Free Software Foundation and a board member of the Public Patent Foundation (PubPat). Moglen said that if Vole manages to successfully get a FAT patent it is "goodnight Vienna" for Linux, which also uses the nearly ubiquitous file system. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

Can you imagine having to run a utility on Windows to put files on a Linux formatted diskette. It's a roadblock to migration from Windows, but not as serious as all that. It's just a damned inconvenience. In trying to patent the simpleminded FAT, they show they have no shame.
