New Heirloom seeds.
Heirloom seeds are seeds that haven't been bred commercially. Many of the strains were grown the same way in the 1800s.

[link|http://www.seedsofchange.com/garden_center/product_details.asp?item_no=S11151&UID=|Heirloom tomato seeds] - these are the ones we planted a few years ago. The Brandywines are phenomenal - big (1# or more), sweet, juicy, meaty. Eat them like a coreless apple. :-)

New Why you can't buy Brandywines in stores
Tomato farmers use mechanical harvesters. The mechanical harvesters bang the tomatos around, and so can only be used on varieties of tomatos that are fairly resistant to damage. Therefore tasty types of tomatos that don't handle well are not grown commercially.

You can find more consequences of mechanical harvesting of tomatos at [link|http://www.lclark.edu/~soan221/01wlc/AgTechnology/harvester.htm|http://www.lclark.ed...ogy/harvester.htm].

To deny the indirect purchaser, who in this case is the ultimate purchaser, the right to seek relief from unlawful conduct, would essentially remove the word consumer from the Consumer Protection Act

New Recently saw something about this
Some show about LA, think it was on the Discovery HD channel
The highly contested water disputes of Hetch-Hetchy and the Owens Valley offer great examples of the social consequences that bringing water to San Francisco and Los Angeles, respectively, created.
while watching the show, I wondered if we could undo the damage by using modern desalination technology.

New Yep. Which is why heirloom varieties were in danger
of being lost until people started cultivating them specifically.
