New I did find it highky unusual.
In our house, the "unedible" parts were promptly thrown away. Something like compost pile broth would be concidered unsanitary, even though 2 days of boiling surely kill anything alive there.

New It's called soup stock
and it's how it's made. That's why he puts it in the freezer, to make sure that the food doesn't start to spoil before you have enough of it to make stock.

It's not unusual at all.
