New Defect to where, though?
Unless, of course, they defect. In which case you make a point of treating them well and advertising loudly the pleasant fate of being a defector.

So you have a camp, no US force within hundreds of miles.. and they defect.. So what? What keeps them from defecting back?

From what I've heard, the concept of "defection" is a foreign one - local leaders change allies and loyalties as they need, for their gain (sometimes to their long-term detriment).

That's the problem with any sort of grouping here.. they don't have cohesiveness.

New Northern Alliance for now
And note that the US is not looking for immediate cohesiveness on any matter but one.

You don't shelter Osama bin Laden or his organization.

Rebuilding the country is another thing. It will take work. But the first step is to get rid of the Taliban...

Cheers,
Ben
