Thurs night on Aust Govt TV (ABC) they ran an interesting item on Smell and Schizophrenia. (This is the same tv show that presented the 'watch the 3 yellow dots' item a couple of months back).

Seems that some researches consider confused smelling as early signs of Schizophrenia. They have devised a set of tests that seem to be quite effective.

Here is the link - (you can download the video of the tv segment if really keen)

Smell and Schizophrenia

Can your nose smell the early signs of schizophrenia? According to researchers at the University of Melbourne it can. Theyve found that your ability to correctly identify smells on a scratch and sniff test can be an indicator of your risk of developing schizophrenia. In the past weve had very limited tools to predict whether someone is going to develop schizophrenia or not. All weve been able to use is family history and certain behaviour. Until now. Researchers at the University of Melbourne have found that our sense of smell is turning out to be very useful in predicting the development of schizophrenia. Take a teenager already at risk of developing schizophrenia. The worse they score on the scratch and sniff test, the higher their likelihood of developing schizophrenia

So a quick test you can try where you are :-) is to scratch the screen on your terminal & sniff it, if you can smell bacon and eggs at the place you scratched then the possibilities are ...

1) You shouldn't eat breakfast & surf the net at the same time
2) You should not take your WiFi notebook to Harry's diner or other food 'hot spots'
3) You are a budding schitzo

Enjoy
